Brokers have traditionally occupied a personal relationship of trust with their clients where the telephone was the primary means of communication. However, the advent of new technology and different channels of communication has created different expectations of customer service. The added threat of increasing democratisation of information previously reserved for the very few in the investment field has also led to technology being easily available to potential clients. Brokers have been reasonably slow to adopt new technologies to serve their customers better, rather the technology has been used to improve internal trading systems.
