TOP 20 Challenge Responses
In partnership with Standard Bank, we are delighted to announce the TOP 20 responses to the 2014 Matchi Fintech Innovation Challenge.
The challenge has been running for the past month and was open to all fintech firms worldwide. We received many high quality entries from firms located in 16 different countries that span across Europe, USA, UK, Asia, Middle East, Australasia and Africa.
Challengers were able to submit one response for every working prototype / market-ready innovation listed across 6 categories: Security & Fraud Reduction; Mobile Payments & Customer Service; Lending & Alternative Financial Services; Personal Financial Management & Investment; Business Banking & SMEs; and Corporate Banking Solutions.
The competition closed on Friday 24 October leaving our judging panel with the tough task of evaluating and scoring all the entries. The Top 20 firms have now been selected through an adjudication process which scored each response on originality, applicability, capability and overall impression.
Each of the Top 20 firms has won exhibition space (to the value of USD1,500) at the Standard Bank Fintech Innovation Showcase to be held on 5 December 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Whilst there, the Top 20 firms will have the opportunity to meet and present their capabilities to Innovation leads from Matchi Sponsor Banks (including Standard Bank, Caixa Bank and Bank Hapoalim). During the showcase, the Top 20 firms will also meet the fund management team from Standard Bank as well as invited accelerators, other participating banks, investors and media.
But the competition is not over yet!
Each one of the Top 20 firms is now in the running to win the top prize in their category.
In addition to securing their spot at the Standard Bank Fintech Innovation Showcase, the best response from each of the six categories will win their firm an all-expenses-paid trip (for 2) to attend the Matchi Innovation Sponsor Summit which takes place in South Africa prior to the showcase. During the summit, each firm will have 30-minutes to personally pitch their response and capabilities to a group of 6 of the most innovative banks in the world! In turn, the banks will evaluate the firms as potential long-term development partners.
The final 6 winning firms and the 6 participating banks will be confirmed on Monday 10 November 2014.
